The ĢƵ is home to the Delores and Weldon Cole Honors College. Its mission is to provide students with a great college experience that translates into postgraduate success. The College is full of many students with different majors, backgrounds, and aspirations.
Step Sing, the annual song-and-dance show, sponsored by the University Program Council at the ĢƵ, is set for Thursday through Saturday at Norton Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus. The show will start at 7 p.m., and doors will open at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 27, the ĢƵ will host the inaugural Alabama Higher Education Science of Reading Symposium that is designed to bring together faculty from across Alabama to share research, best practices, and ideas for supporting the science of reading with preservice and inservice teachers.
The MBA program in the Sanders College of Business and Technology at the ĢƵ is, for the seventh consecutive year, ranked as the largest in the State of Alabama, according to data gathered by the Birmingham Business Journal. With more than 1,000 students enrolled in the MBA program, it leads the next nearest institution by more than 200 students.

In Fall 2022, the ĢƵ was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the 8th Best College for Veterans among Regional Universities South. According to the publication, which releases these lists annually, the ranking reflects the institutions that participate in federal initiatives that assist veterans and active-duty military pay for and complete their degrees.

Dr. Robert Leslie Potts, former president of the ĢƵ, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2022. He was 78. “Robert’s life was a celebration of the causes he held dear – from his leadership at the University of North Alabama to his role as long-time advocate for diversity in our state and our region,” said ĢƵ President Dr. Ken Kitts.
Dr. Katie Owens-Murphy, an Associate Professor of English and Graduate Coordinator at the ĢƵ, has been approved for leave for the Fall 2023 semester.
The Mitchell-West Center for Social Inclusion at the ĢƵ will observe National First-Generation Celebration Day Nov. 8, which coincides with the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965 that defined the first-generation college student for the first time.
The ĢƵ has been named one of the best schools for online higher education in healthcare by EduMed.org. ĢƵ’s online programs in the medical field earned top honors for their overall quality, affordability, and commitment to student success.
Enrollment at the ĢƵ has topped 10,000 for the first time in institutional history, with gains across all student types. University officials credit this Fall 2022 semester growth to an ongoing strategic, intentional, and diversified enrollment strategy as well as to Fall 2 beginners in several online graduate programs, the online Bachelors of Business Administration, and elsewhere.
